Completely fine. You can wear normal workout clothes for your free trial whether it's gi or no-gi. We have trial gis available to borrow. We train barefoot, so slip-on shoes are recommended when going on and off the mat.

For gi classes, you'll need an IRONGRIP gi (available for purchase in the studio). For no-gi, workout clothes work fine — we recommend a rashguard, shorts with no pockets or zippers, mouthguard, and a cup for men. We also sell IRONGRIP rashguards and apparel in the studio.

Yes — it's actually designed for beginners. That's why we start with IG 1 (Fundamentals), a class specifically for newer students. You'll learn step by step and build a real foundation before moving on. Many people start with zero martial arts experience.

That's completely fine! BJJ is what gets you in shape — it's a full-body workout with cardio built in. We will never pressure you to push beyond your comfortable limits. Just show up. The movement does the work.

Most members train 3 times per week, which is our best recommendation for building real muscle memory and progress. Even 2 times per week will get you results. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Yes. We are registered with IBJJF and actively help students train and prepare for tournaments. Coach Glayton has competed at every belt level and knows exactly how to prepare you. We're also involved in local tournaments and love supporting competitors.

Yes. BJJ is one of the most practical self-defense systems available. You'll learn how to take down, control, and neutralize an attacker — and how to stay calm under pressure. Coach Glayton applied these techniques as a SWAT officer in real-world situations.

Gi Classes: All students must wear an IRONGRIP gi — this maintains uniformity, hygiene, and team identity. No-Gi Classes: Rashguard and MMA shorts (no pockets or zippers). Normal workout clothing works as long as there are no metal attachments. Remove all jewelry before stepping on the mat.

No shoes are allowed on the mat. We recommend bringing slip-on shoes or sandals to wear when off the mat (using the restroom, etc.).

Parents should drop off just before class starts and pick up promptly after class ends. This helps ensure a smooth transition between classes and allows Coach Glayton to focus on instruction.
